He took $1 BILLION from utility customers and gave it to a HUGE foreign wind developer.
New Jersey families and businesses are already paying higher electric bills to build offshore wind farms.
Durr Opposes Bill Redirecting $1 Billion of Ratepayer Relief to Foreign Wind Farm Developer
Senator Ed Durr expressed his strong opposition to legislation that would redirect up to $1 billion from ratepayers to a foreign company that is building a disputed wind farm off the coast of New Jersey.

“New Jersey ratepayers are already paying higher costs on their electric bills to help fund the offshore wind farms that are being developed within sight of our beaches,” said Durr (R-3). “Ørsted agreed as part of the approval process to apply for and return to ratepayers any federal tax incentives that might become available to offset the higher costs that ratepayers are paying today for the development of wind energy. Despite the deal they signed, Ørsted is realizing that wind farm projects don’t make economic sense without major government subsidies, so now they’re looking for a huge handout at the expense of utility customers. We shouldn’t give it to them.”
Committee Advances Pennacchio/Durr Bill Securing Access to Public Lakes for Recreational Fisherman
Legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Pennacchio and Senator Ed Durr that would preserve access to any state-owned lake that is open to boats with or without onboard motors was approved today by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.

“There is growing concern about the lack of public boat launches,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “New Jersey is home to public lakes that are open to bass boats and motorized vessels, but recreational boaters who don’t live on the lake or have private docks find it impossible to get into the water.”
Durr: Attributing the Deaths of Whales Disoriented by Wind Survey Work to Ship Strikes Is Disingenuous
Senator Ed Durr issued the following response after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) determined that the deaths of two humpback whales were caused by vessel strikes off the coast of New York and New Jersey.

“Attributing recent whale deaths solely to ship strikes neglects obvious underlying factors that are likely causing marine mammals to swim into the paths of boats in the first place,” said Durr (R-03). “Whales and other marine mammals use sound, sonar, and sensitive hearing to navigate along our coast, abilities that are almost certainly impacted by noisy survey work related to offshore wind development. They’re likely being disoriented by the noise of the survey work and losing their ability to navigate safely. It’s like blinding another driver with your high beams at night and blaming the bridge abutment they crash into for their injuries. It’s really disingenuous.”
Testa & Durr: Despite Democrat Fearmongering, Nobody Is Looking to Ban Books
Senator Michael Testa and Senator Ed Durr said that despite fearmongering from Governor Phil Murphy and Trenton Democrats, nobody is looking to ban books of any kind.

“It’s a total misrepresentation for Democrats to say that parents are looking to ‘ban books’ simply for expressing their concerns about the unrestricted availability of content that’s not age-appropriate in their school libraries,'” said Durr (R-3). “Nobody is looking to stop adults from buying these books or suggesting that parents shouldn’t be able to provide them to their children at their discretion. Any suggestion by Governor Murphy or Trenton Democrats that children’s access to books in school libraries has to be all or nothing is just fearmongering of the worst kind. We believe there are workable solutions that could address the concerns of parents and ensure continued access to books with sexual content with reasonable restrictions.”
Durr Blasts Democrat Bill that Would Punish Schools for Respecting Parental Rights
Senator Ed Durr blasted a new Democrat-sponsored bill that would impose financial penalties on school districts that remove pornographic books from school libraries at the request of concerned parents.

“It’s absolutely nuts that Trenton Democrats want to punish schools for listening to the concerns of parents and removing books that contain pornographic material,” said Durr (R-3). “Parents should be able to say that they don’t believe certain books are age-appropriate for their children’s schools, and school districts should be commended rather than punished for respecting parental rights. This legislation shows just how far Democrats are willing to go to push their gender ideology on our kids.”
Durr Sponsors $4.32 Billion of “Give It Back” Property Tax Relief for Towns & Counties
Senator Ed Durr is sponsoring legislation that would provide $4.32 billion of “Give It Back” property tax relief to every town and county in New Jersey, including more than $100 million to the 3rd Legislative District.

“For too long, Governor Murphy and Trenton Democrats have ignored South Jersey and chosen a few favored towns with connections to party bosses to get relief while everyone else has gotten nothing,” said Durr (R-3). “Senate Republicans believe that every town and county in New Jersey deserves a fair share of property tax relief. Under our plan, local governments in the 3rd Legislative District would receive more than $100 million to pay down debt, reduce property taxes, or fund local projects of their choosing, including paving roads and building parks.”
Pennacchio & Durr Express Support for Hanover School District Policy to Keep Parents Informed
Senators Oppose Effort by Attorney General Platkin to Block Policy that Respects Parental Rights
Senator Joe Pennacchio and Senator Ed Durr expressed support for a policy adopted by the Hanover Township Board of Education that requires staff to notify parents when they become aware of anything that may impact a student’s well-being. They said an effort by Attorney General Platkin to stop the policy from being implemented is misguided.

“Attorney General Platkin is trying to make this an LGBTQ issue, but that is not what the policy is about,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “Hanover should be applauded for making a real effort to ensure that parents are informed of anything that could impact the mental or physical well-being of their children. I stand 100% with the Board of Education and with parents who know best how to care for their kids.”
Durr Responds After Murphy Says “It’s My Money” While Promising $65 Million of Taxpayer Funds at Campaign Event
Senator Ed Durr responded after Governor Phil Murphy said, “it’s my money, and that’s how it’s going to be spent,” as he promised $65 million of taxpayer funds for a local project while campaigning over the weekend in West New York for a Democrat candidate for mayor.

“Governor Murphy just said out loud what most New Jersey Democrats think but dare not say,” said Durr (R-3). “He really believes that funds extracted from taxpayers by government are his to dole out on the campaign trail to buy votes or in the back rooms of Trenton to curry favor with Democratic party bosses. It’s a shocking admission that helps explain why Democrat leaders approved buying a fleet of new taxpayer-funded SUVs for themselves with pandemic relief funds while most New Jerseyans got nothing. This slush fund mentality that’s shared by Governor Murphy and the Democrat insiders who have ruled the Legislature for two decades is exactly why New Jersey has the highest tax burden in the nation for families and businesses.”
O’Scanlon and Durr Repeat Call for Moratorium on Offshore Wind Farm Surveys
Senator Declan O’Scanlon and Senator Ed Durr renewed their call for Governor Murphy to pause offshore wind farm surveys to investigate if the work is responsible for dozens of whale and dolphin deaths. They also questioned why several recently announced projects to study marine life in the area are being conducted without a pause in the survey work.

“While I am happy to see that the Board of Public Utilities will start studying the diversity of marine life around the proposed wind farms, we continue to believe Governor Murphy should pause the survey work related to wind farm development,” said O’Scanlon (R-13). “It’s likely they won’t get an accurate picture of the marine life in the area while wind developers are disturbing our coastal waters with sonar blasts, drilling, and other activities. They should have started the marine life surveys before the wind farm work began to get an accurate baseline. A pause of offshore wind preparations would provide ample time for researchers to do their job and deliver accurate results from their studies.”
